Our new recycling and waste service started across the borough on 30 September. We are aware that there are problems with collections in some areas and we apologise to everyone affected by the delays. We are working with our contractor to catch up and get things right as soon as possible.
We have additional crews out on both the recycling and refuse rounds and have a further two vehicles specifically collecting missed bins. Crews are also working at weekends to catch up on delayed and missed collections.
Please report missed collections online as this ensures the information about your missed collection reaches our contractor as quickly as possible. The current average time for us to collect missed bins is 4 working days. We are working hard with our contractor to reduce this time as quickly as possible.
If your whole road has been missed, please leave your bins out as the crew will return the following morning. Please only report a missed collection after midday on the day after your scheduled collection.
Garden waste bins
If you ordered your garden waste bin before 15 August 2019 you should have received it and started your waste collections.
If you have not received your black bin yet, many apologies - if you haven't already reported it to us please report the non delivery here. We aim to deliver your bin within 14 days of your report.
If you ordered your garden waste bin after 29 September, your bin will be delivered within 21 days ready for the start of your service.
Food waste caddies
All properties, apart from those who share communal refuse bins, should have received food waste caddies. If you have not, many apologies. We do have some outstanding deliveries to make to residents who have already reported that they don’t have a caddy. These deliveries are continuing. If you don’t have a caddy and haven’t previously let us know - request a redelivery here. We aim to deliver food waste caddies within 14 days of your report.
Information about the collection vehicles
Most of the waste and recycling vehicles are split into separate compartments which enables them to collect different waste streams at the same time.
Most of the vehicles collecting your recyclables have compartments for paper and cardboard, and for glass, plastics and cans as well as third compartment for food waste.
The vehicles collecting your other household waste have one compartment for refuse plus a separate food waste section.
The vehicles also have compartments for textiles, batteries and small electricals.
When one section of the vehicle reaches capacity, the crew have to return to the Household Waste and Recycling Centre to tip that load. This is why you may see a crew complete part of a road before returning to finish the collections.
On some occasions you may also see the crews emptying food waste bins into one larger wheelie bin before tipping this into the vehicle. In this case the food waste is still collected separately from the recycling or refuse and will be sent for composting.
Garden waste is collected by a separate vehicle.
We are aware residents have had difficulties getting through to us by phone and we apologise for the delays. You are likely to find the information you need on our dedicated waste website at www.tunbridgewells.gov.uk/new.
